Faith in Humanity – a song

Humanist Prayer

Yes, we all have our crosses to bear, well-worn paths to follow
Some have pillars to push against, so many lies, so much sorrow
Many blame it all on destiny, and leave their fate to glories

But, there are those of us with brows to beat
Who despair at those mystical stories

My faith in humanity, is the only Word I need
No-veiled-wisdom of ancient times
No truths in a mythical creed
And that faith in humanity, is what lets us all belong
No higher mind to guide us now
Without it we are just as strong

We all know those ancient stories
That tell us what’s wrong and right
They bring fear to the meek and mindless
Their demons, just mirrors so bright
But bitterness and fear and anger bring us down
so we have to fight

I can’t bear that it’s weakness we cling to
When our instincts just show us the light

My faith in humanity, is the only Word I need
No-veiled-wisdom of ancient times
No truths in a mythical creed
And that faith in humanity, is what helped us all along
No higher mind to doom us now
Without it we are just as strong

Karma may be calming
For Heaven’s sake it brings relief
But better the devil you don’t know
Than a world of make believe

Just faith in humanity, is the only Word you know
No secret knowledge from times gone by
No truths in a mystical show
And your faith in humanity, is what means we can get along
No higher mind to bring us down
Without it we’d all be strong
