Sunny Days and Rainbows

You might be interested to know this song was inspired by learning that Dolly Parton is set to play Glastonbury this year. Quite ironic that there’s a quote from her that you’ve got to put up with a little rain if you want rainbows. I assume she was paraphrasing GK Chesterton:

“…when it rains on your parade, look up rather than look down. Without the rain, there would be no rainbow.”

Not sure whether she said that with respect to Glasto or much earlier, either way, it’s a nice thought and she is a highly prolific and talented wordsmith and singer-songwriter; hope she don’t mind this tribute.

Sunny Days and Rainbows

There are sunny days, And there are lows
Where’s the perfect ten, For the wannabe heroes?
You got to put up with a little rain, If you want to see the rainbow’s end

Flying above the clouds feeling the good times now
Don’t it seem a little sad when you come back down
Taking the chance you have to take, knowing you’re bound to make mistakes
Trying to get your feet back on the ground

Wonder why you ever took the time,
Seems to be no reason or rhyme
But, when the rain comes, you’ll know why

There are sunny days, And there are lows
Where’s the perfect ten, For the wannabe heroes?
You got to put up with a little rain, If you want to see the rainbows again

I’m falling through the clouds
Down below, I see the crowds walk away

There are sunny days, And there are lows
There’s no perfect ten for the big fat zeroes?
You got to put up with a little rain, If you want to find that rainbow’s end
You got to put up with a little rain, If you want to see the rainbows again

Dreaming of life in the fast-lane going slow
