I recorded some self-penned lyrics over an Oasis-style backing track and added a guitar solo. Not really sure what the words mean something about the spurious notion of honour amongst thieves, justice, battles lost and won, lovers running away but hoping to settle in a nice semi-detached house built between the wars, fire watching (the kind that happened during WWII), oh and whether or not the between the wars refers to between WWI and WWII or between the last and the next war.
Anyway, here are the lyrics, I put the tune on SoundCloud, I can hear echoes of Scissor Sisters (Don’t feel like dancing), Oasis (everything) and Robbie Williams (Angels) in my melody. There even seems to be a snatch of Buble (Just haven’t met you yet). What do you think?
In kinder times, we’re sinning, but foresaken there’s no winning
The judges call and we have to tell them no
The thieves are running wild. And they’re drinking blessed mild,
but all our thoughts are with them as they go
Won’t you run this way with me?
I’m fighting fires a little better this time
Won’t you run away with me
or we carry on until we feel nothing
Fighting between the wars, take a chance or break a law
Hoping that they’ll never catch us now we’re running
Facing up to older scores, Evened odds we’ve had before
But, we can seek neutrality
The gentler hand that’s feeding, takes the food that we’re all needing
The judgement scorns the honour that they show
The thieves once running wild are screaming mercy mild
and all our thoughts still with them as they go
Won’t you hide away with me?
I found the fire a little warmer this time
Won’t you come and stay with me
or we’ll carry on until we can see nothing
Fighting between the wars, take a chance on broken law
Hoping that they’ll never catch us now we’re running
Facing up to colder scores, Even gods we’ve had before
But, we can face neutrality
Fighting between the wars, take a chance on broken laws
Hoping that they’ll never catch us now
Sailing up to golden shores, we can hear the ocean’s roar
Now we have found neutrality
