There was a twitter discussion referencing World War II mortar spigot positions (@FrankCrosby @Sarah_May1). As I walk the dog close to a site with such an emplacement, I used it as an excuse to do a little photo essay showing the gun emplacement and its surroundings, including Rampton Pocket Park, the adjacent mediaevel site of Giant’s Hill and the spigot that nestles among the nettles there in the shade of oak and ash.
