I started out thinking along the lines of Sleepless in Seattle, You Got Mail, obvious cliched rom-com tosh…but the lyric evolved and it’s now quite ambiguous I hope. Is the protagonist simply downhearted because he cannot connect to his lover online, does she even exist in real-life? Or, is it a long-distance relationship? Maybe it’s his significant other in the real world, but she’s gone offline figuratively speaking, they had a row, it’s a hiccup in their relationship. Has he done something so bad that she’s turned her back on him, she’s offline, off-limits? Perhaps it’s all over, maybe it’s just the usual ups and downs, love’s ebb and flow, maybe they can reconnect again, maybe he should’ve given her a piece of his mind, but then their words really would be out of time and he knew that way he’d fail…of course, conversely, it could be his love that’s offline…
