Naming your rock gods

I can never get it out of my head that almost all the British and American rock, pop, and hip-hop gods we have known and loved have such mundane names…even the ones we think of as most exotic!

There are loads of Mick, Keith, Paul, George, John, Eric, Roger, Pete, David, Dave, Kate, Eddie, Stevie, Terri, Michael, Carol, Declan, Chrissie, Patti, Bonnie, Andre, Tracy, Charles, Debbie, Joan, Ozzy (just a John), Slash (Saul), Lemmy (admittedly, that’s an unusual forename), Ronnie, Richie, Neil, Patricia…I could go on

Even Farrokh Bulsara went for Freddie, although his stage surname of Mercury, is pretty cool. Mr Zappa? Frank! Elton…Reginald! Geddy? He’s just a Gary. David Jones…became David Bowie, but kept the Dave. Even his son Zowie Bowie isn’t officially called that, his first given name is Duncan…

Of course, I blame the parents (as they say), how were they to know

Then there is Elvis…uhuh
