We enjoyed a lovely performance from the Haizea Wind Quintet in a local venue with a small, but perfectly formed, audience, raising money for Cancer Research UK. The quintet comprises students from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London. Despite the chilly air outside and the frozen ground they offered us a warm welcome and an evening of beautiful music. A delightful montage of music from West Side Story, a spot of Grieg (or was it Peer Gynt?), followed by a delightful medley of Christmas tunes.
An astonishing sound produced by just five young musicians. So dynamic, beautifully balanced, rich, and melodious. Very much enjoyed their humour jumping neatly over the very, very occasional harmonic glitch too.
In all, a wonderful and unique evening of musical performance. Hope to see them again soon, perhaps in a venue in The Pyrenees…
