Cracking Peter Gabriel’s Sledgehammer

I don’t know whether I’ve cracked Peter Gabriel’s Sledgehammer or not. I’ve gone through so many iterations of the audio mix having built this cover version up from a MIDIdrum track and recording layer after layer. I reckon this is the most complex mix I’ve done, there are four layers of my vocals blended together, two guitar tracks, my bass guitar, two synth horn tracks played on keyboard (tapping keys on virtual piano on computer keyboard that is), there’s the pan flute and last but not least, my wonderful daughter “b00” doing some super backing vocals on the “yeah, yeah…yeahs” and the “sledge, sledge…sledgehammers”. Anyway, have a listen and let me know what you think. It’s in video format only because SoundCloud doesn’t allow covers. When I do a final mix/master I’ll get it off to iTunes and Spotify etc.

I reckon Sledgehammer was to Peter Gabriel what Let’s Dance was to David Bowie. Scroll down my covers playlist to hear my version of that song too! They both kicked the habit with those two songs and opened up vast new audiences for their music.
